Brief: To create a classic “orangery” extension with a modern skylight

The kitchen was overlooked and dark.  The classic aesthetics of this side return extension were achieved using reclaimed materials (perfectly matched bricks & an original Edwardian doorframe) and traditional building techniques (a curved arch & parapet wall).  The parapet wall, made of Edwardian “specials”, not only frames the extension, but also serves as housing for the modern and rather ugly drainage around the skylight.  Incorporating reclaimed materials and an off the shelf skylight more than halved the costs of commissioning bespoke solutions.
